New Job
Friday morning I was feeling the frustration of not hearing anything back on the promotion I had been interviewing for. I had actually given up on another job within my department that would have given me a small promo but still left me in a hourly position. I told myself that my next job was going to be management but had the quick opportunity of taking this internal job. I made it all the way to the final interview for this internal position but decided to drop out thirty minutes before the start of the interview, because the day before I received an email about a management job in HR, the email was from the hiring manager. I would had regret it for the next year had I not dropped it, received the internal job and wondered...."what if". Three weeks later (Friday)I am sitting at my desk thinking "What do I need to do to get this promotion." I decided to call the recruiter just before lunch and see if there was an update and if anybody is reading this that works at Wal-Mart HQ you know trying to get a hold of any recruiter or their coordinator can be difficult. So with no answer I decided to take a quick stroll to the cafe and get a bite to eat. As soon as I got back to my desk I started rapping things up because I needed to leave early because my baby boy at home was sick and needed to go to the Dr. Thirty minutes before it is time to go I get a call and noticed the recruiting coordinators name on the ID. My first thought is she saw me call earlier and is calling back or is calling me to let me know I didn't get the job. Yet when I answer it is the actual recruiter asking if I have a few minutes to talk. She then proceeds to tell me that I have been offered the job, goes over the pay, benefits and asks me to come and get the paper work to accept, fill out and go take my drug test. Needless to say I couldn't get the smile off my face or drop my heart rate down. I was pumped, on cloud nine, and felt like I am actually going somewhere. I left a great company three years ago because I felt like my oppertunities were limited. I even took a pay cut at my own expense. Almost a 3.25 pay cut. And in less then 2.5 years I have not only made up that pay cut but will increase it by 32%. Wal-mart can have its negatives, but in my opinion, they are far out weighed by its positives.
